Elegant Dubbing
But Paul Keeley is best known for his very own elegant definition of Dub Techno and Tech-House. And while especially the former musical style all too often suffers from a limited range of sounds, beats and mainly ideas, Paul seems to play in a league of his own. He cleverly combines the airiness of Ambient music with the tight beats of Minimal Techno and the jaunty attitude of House productions, creating an extremely uplifting variation of a supposed worn-out style.
While Keeley indulges in this mellow and smoothing sound mainly on his Thinner-releases, he allows himself to get into a bit more funkier and aggressive dancefloor-oriented material with his releases on Epsilonlabs. You'll also find a fine live set of a gig the British Colombian artist did in Quebec back in 2005, showcasing him breezing through bubbly Tech-House, deep moody grooves and right on up through the tougher side of Techno.
All of Paul Keeley's releases are connected through a fine taste of sound selection and their masterly production and mastering, two forms of art Paul always coped with: "For me, it’s always been about the production techniques and instrumentation", he explains in an interview with the online-magazine i:Vibes, "I’ve always loved really rich-sounding music, with lots of variety in tone and flow."
